En el mes de mayo empezó la temporada de huracanes en la zona del Atlántico Norte, y aunque normalmente se inicia el 1 de junio y finaliza el 30 de noviembre, este año ha comenzado el 19 de mayo con una tormenta tropical que precisamente responde al nombre de Alberto (tocayo mío).
Los huracanes o ciclones tropicales son inicialmente unas depresiones tropicales, pasando después a ser tormentas tropicales, y finalmente huracanes de categoría 1 hasta la 5. La clasificación vendría en función de la velocidad de los vientos:
- Depresión tropical: <39.-mph (<62.-km/h)
- Tormenta tropical: 39-73.-mph (63-117.-Km/h)
- Huracán cat. 1: 74-95.-mph (118-153.-Km/h)
- Huracán cat. 2: 95-110.-mph (154-177.-Km/h)
- Huracán cat. 3: 111-130.-mph (178-209.-Km/h)
- Huracán cat. 4: 131-155.-mph (210-250.-Km/h)
- Huracán cat. 5: >156.-mph (>251.-Km/h)

Son denominados con nombre de persona, en una lista de 21 nombres por temporada, femenino y masculino alternados, y desde la letra A hasta la W. En el caso de haber más de esta cantidad de ciclones, se denominarían por las letras griegas (alfa, beta...).
Actualmente están activos la tormenta tropical Ernesto que hoy precisamente se convierte en huracán de categoría 1, y el Florence en depresión tropical que se dirige hacia el Este Noreste, todavñia a unos 3.000.-Km de Cancún.
La buena noticial al menos para nosotros es que "Ernesto"se dirigía justo hacia donde nos encontramos y con previsión de categoría 3, pero finalmente se ha rebajado a categoría 1 y con otra trayectoria.
Mañana igualmente tendremos los efectos e imágenes que produce un huracán de cat. 1 a unos 300.-Km de distancia y que sin duda serán bastante interesantes..!!

Actually, active tropical storm Ernesto is now just becoming Category 1, and Florence as a tropical depression that is going to the east northeast.
The good new at least for us is that "Ernesto" was coming directly to us, with a forecast of category 3, but eventually downgraded to Category 1 in another direction.
Tomorrow we will have also the effects and images of a hurricane cat. 1 at 200 miles, and no doubt that will be quite interesting ..!!
